GYBA Base Level Benefits
JeffCo League Participation
All GYBA teams participate in the JeffCo League. The league is comprised of the following areas with teams at competitive and recreational levels that play home and away games in the respective areas culminating with tournaments at each grade level the last week of February.
- Green Mountain | Alameda | Arvada West | Chatfield | Conifer | D'Evelyn | Evergreen | Lakewood | Pomona | Ralston Valley | Standley Lake | Wheat Ridge | and others
The league offers four (4) levels of play, Gold (A+/Gold Crown level), Competitive (A level), In Between (B level), Recreational (C level), to accommodate kids new to the game as well as the more experienced and serious player. Some age groups within the JeffCo League also have a Gold Division. This division has been created to allow kids that play in the Gold Crown Competitive League to also participate in the JeffCo League. The Gold, A, B & C divisions of the JeffCo League have limits as to how many kids can also play Gold Crown.
All teams within GYBA receive practice time that is scheduled and paid for through GYBA. Teams typically get two (2) practices per week, with each practice being an hour to an hour-and-a-half long. Practice facilities include Golden area elementary and middle schools, Tony Grampsas Athletic Complex and Gold Crown.
A, B and C level teams will vary in size from 8 to 10 players, with the target team size being 8.
Competitive Levels (Gold & Silver) - TRYOUTS REQUIRED
If your son or daughter is in 6th grade or older, and wishes to compete on a Gold or Silver level team within GYBA, then they must attend tryouts. Players are selected by G.Y.B.A. Board of Directors, Golden High School coaches and team representatives. The decision will not be based on home address, carpooling, player’s previously playing together and/or returning to the league. Further, at this level, coaches determine the amount of playing time for all players except for the Jefferson County Basketball Conference mandatory one full quarter playing time rule. You will be notified of the location, date and time of the tryout.
Recreation Level (A, B and C) - NO TRYOUTS REQUIRED
No Tryouts at this level. All players must play at least one full quarter in the first half and no player may play all four quarters (sit and play rules vary by grade level). In case of limited positions available for the team, the priority for placement on a team is:
1. returning players;
2. returning players whose registration forms are received first when more than ten returning players are vying for a spot on the roster; and
3. new players.
